MMS :: Day 1

Since I am in San Diego waiting for the time pass, I thought I would write about each day and hopefully bring some good news to the Microsoft Operations Management community. There seem to be a lot of people attending the conference this year which is a good sign for Configuration and Operations Management.

There were quite a few Hands-On Lab sessions that walked through an OP Manager 2007 installation and different MOM 2005 scenarios. Fortunately I was able to attend a couple of Operations Manager 2007 sessions that basically dealt with a high level overview of the Advanced Topics and Management Packs. I tried to attend the OM 2007 Intro Session but it was a very popular session. I have included an overview of what was discussed in each session I attended.

  • Advanced Topics: This session touched on topics concerning the Management Shell, User Roles, Distributed Applications, and AD integration configuration. The AD integration was extremely cool and the Management Shell walkthrough was very informative as well.
  • Management Packs: This is a refresher session for anyone who has walked through the AD or Exchange Management Packs. This session basically went through the configuration requirements for both management packs and the end result.

Here is the good news for all who couldn’t make it: The OM 2007 PM announced that the Virtual Machines and workbooks used in today’s sessions will be available on TechNet in the coming weeks. It would be great for those who couldn’t make it to be able to benefit from some of the knowledge transfer happening at MMS.
